    ____

    Thursday 16 December
...Brudenell Social Club, Leeds, LS6 1NY
Doors 8pm, tickets £6 (on sale soon)

    DRAG AND DROP presents…..

THE YUMMY FUR formed in Glasgow in 1992 from the same loose network that gave us Country Teasers, Bis, Lungleg, Divorce, 1990s (and, eventually, the slightly more famous band you might have heard on the radio). Their early ten-song 7″s were the most exciting thing to assault my 15-year old ears in 1995 and among the best records Slampt ever released. Four years after their first record The Yummy Fur released ‘Sexy World’, completing the transition between ‘Middlemass’-era Fall and a ranty Roxy Music for indie discos. After a split in 1998 and a long hiatus they returned in January to play two comeback gigs in London; this is their first Leeds gig since the split.

PLEASE are Keeby, Roland and Michael, or if you prefer “like a grouse being stuffed into the mouth of a wild boar”. Their swaggering, feudal rock music got the boozy Spaniards going when they toured over the spring with Beards. Each member extolls his own eccentric body movements and facial expressions as can be seen from the video below. You may recognise one of their faces from Cleckhuddersfax.

TWO MINUTE NOODLES still to be confirmed.

DJing from Jonny Strangeways til late.

DRAG AND DROP 8 OCCURS ON SATURDAY 30TH OCTOBER
The Yummy Fur gig replaces the December Drag and Drop - we will return in early 2011.

If you like the idea of this gig, you're going to love the Milky Wimpshake gig this Saturday at The Common Place. Great support acts + D i s c o afterwards. 8 til late. £3 in. It's all for a good cause i.e. petrol money for the bands.

On Thursday the Yummy Fur are visiting Leeds for the last time ever. We expect the gig to be busy on the door. If you are planning to travel from afar please buy a ticket to be sure of getting in!

There are a limited number of tickets available from the Brudenell at £6 with no booking fee. Please ask behind the bar for these. There are also some dribs and drabs left at We Got Tickets, Jumbo Records, See and Lunatickets.

Don't forget we're open til at least 1am for dancing courtesy of Jonny Strangeways. This is probably going to be my last C&R gig so I hope we can make it a proper party.

For a gig preview please have a look at this article on the Culture Vulture website:

Thanks, hope to see you down the friggin front.

TWO MINUTE NOODLES have had to cancel due to an injury - apologies. Instead we have..

BEARDS, a two girl one boy assault on the kind of wonky, complicated yet utterly danceable rock music that Leeds is so good at. Having started out as a shambolic party band like LUNG LEG Beards have matured into a true tour de force of the Leeds music scene. Their first LP 'Brick By Boulder' was described by Norman Records thus: "somewhere between early Arab on Radar, The Units and The Minutemen with hints of UK d.i.y outsiders Bilge Pump and Cleckhuddersfax in there for good measure"

I was really really proud of this gig and had the best time watching the Yummy Fur and observing everyone who was dancing. Paul T said it was the best Yummy Fur gig he's ever (ever) played. High praise indeed. Thank you for coming.
A few people offered to pay for an extra ticket if I didn't break even. I didn't, quite, but I didn"t lose much. However that's because Archie worked for free under particularly stressful circumstances (nobody's fault, bad traffic and bad weather). If you want to chip in I would rather you buy Archie a drink next time you see him to say ta.
