Mary Hampton
Seriously spine chilling ‘Mary Hampton’ is something very special indeed. “A woman who appears to have spent much of her life attempting to imitate the shimmer of wind-chimes. The effect is mesmerizing” (The Guardian 10/11/06)

Benjamin Wetherill
Ben needs no introduction. A truly breath taking live performer. “…Wetherill mixes traditional songs with haunting originals and veers between straight-up gritty folk and ethereal psychedelia.” Sandman Magazine

Corsano- Flower Duo (+ 1 tbc), Friday May 2nd, Christchurch Crypt Skipton
Chris Corsano is a drummer / percussionist who has recently toured with Bjork; Wire magazine describe him as “arguably the most riotously energetic and creative drummer in contemporary free jazz”. Together with Mick Flower of Vibracathederal Orchestra, they make an intoxicating, kaleidoscopic racket with free drums tumbling over each other endlessly and Japan Banjo sparking off like a row of misfiring synapses, hitting one epiphany after another. Or something. Will be totally epic in the Crypt, anyway.
Doors at 8, £5/4 (4 if you’ve come from Leeds) - bring your own alcohol, will finish by 10 so you can get the last train. Info - adalim_ssz@yahoo.co.uk
FANGS/ BEARDS/ D’ASTRO/ GHOST FLEET
Total Party duDE!
Thursday 29th May at the Packhorse, first band on at 8 pronto.
cost = four hundred pence.
FANGS (www.myspace.com/fakefang)
(****ex-MOTORMARK****)
From Glasgow, Scotland, JANE QUEEN, MARKO NEIN and FINDLAY FALLS spit new-wave dirty glamour on the dancefloor!
Diamente disco and make-up bag boombox!
Full-on glammed up excellent B-52s/Cramps-style punk disco action.
Fresh from support with JUSTICE, THE PRESETS, and SONS AND DAUGHTERS they were recently voted XFM’s “One’s to watch 2008″.
Brilliant band, sweaty dance action for sure!
BEARDS (www.myspace.com/beards2000)
BEARDS are three outstanding beasts of prehistoric times, recently
acknowledged by Plan B Magazine as one of the best support bands of 2007,
their persuasive basslines and bullish vocals turn the air blue while
their creators hop from instrument to instrument, leaving you
struggling to stand still amongst their day-glo retro mollusc outfits.
D’ASTRO(www.myspace.com/thedastro)
“It’s in your blood
Oh yes, it’s in your guts
It’s in your neck
And as you know, it’s in my nut”
GHOST FLEET (www.myspace.com/ghostfleeting)
They are Ghost Fleet. They were washed up on the shores of Leeds and formed from the shipwrecks of two ill-fated voyages. Combining the age old art of songwriting and guitar plucking with their first steps into electronic music making, they sound like red wine and gin but not in the same glass, like vinyl crackling in a cd player, like a stylus making merry across a .wav file.
All their songs are in the scale of Fuck Off, and the key of confused.

Efterklang
A Danish collective on the excellent Leaf label, Efterklang are astounding on record - a fusion of electronics, sea song, rock and ambience that envelops you slowly and beautifully. Live, they take this core of beauty and project it with such force in to the audience that it takes on a whole new life - every emotion amplified, every note laden with passion.
Last time they played Leeds they captivated 250 people in a packed out Brudenell Social Club. If you caught them last time, you know you can’t miss it again. If you didn’t… well, you know what you have to do…
“Efterklang, live and on record, are rarely less than an incredibly moving and inspiring listen. If you’re yet to let them breach your taste defences, watch the bombs explode below ‘til your heart pops in time.” - www.drownedinsound.com

Bracken
Oh. My. Yes. Bracken, being a “a collective of like minded individuals spiralling in an uncertain and ill defined orbit” led by Chris Adams (aka co-founder of legends Hood) make simply stunning music - walls of ambient sound, dark dub bass and atmospheres, destroyed and re-claimed found sound, beats that range from over-powering to perfectly understated… all topped with vocals and lyrics from a man who knows his own heart. FoS are HUGE Bracken fans, ’cause they’re f**king amazing.
“…[Bracken] perfects the mixture of atmosphere and dub thump. The density of the sound - a soup of horns, organs, guitars, reverb-soaked vocals - sounds like screwed-and-chopped background noise. But in a good way. There are untold details to sift through, melodies to follow, in the washes of pirate-radio static… warm and icy, mechanical and natural, at the same time.” - www.pitchforkmedia.com

James Yates
You may recognise James from his skin hitting duties in the jaw droppingly good The Pattern Theory. So it’ll come as no surprise that his solo show is something to behold - organic electronics, perfect drums, spot on percussion and mad-as-a-hatter inventiveness. Four Tet or Battles are reference points… but Master Yates makes them sound like worthless s**t. On his own. You have to watch this guy. If you don’t believe, listen to ‘Yammystar’ on his MySpace. You won’t resist it’s charms.
