About
This is the electronic sibling of Cops and Robbers, a monthly guide listing DIY music events in Leeds. This website lists all the events that you’ll find in the paper copy, but with more up to date information (line-up changes, venue changes or cancellations), and also gigs from the coming months.
The gigs listed on this site are all organised in a DIY fashion, that is to say that the money made from the gigs is used to cover the costs of the bands and the promoters costs. These events don’t exist to make a profit for anyone involved, they are organised for the sheer pleasure and enjoyment of playing, organising or attending a gig.
In a society where most people are happy to be spoon-fed their entertainment, accept the prevailing tastes when choosing what music they consume and expect all artists/promoters to crave fame and fortune this may seem like an odd concept. As far as Cops and Robbers is concerned, though, organising or playing a gig for the pleasure of it is the only reason to do it.
About the site
The main part of the C&R website is devoted to gig listings. You can view these via the calendar on the left. Any date in red has one or more events listed. Click on the date to
view the listings. Click the month at the top to view the whole month. You can skip through months by using the arrows at the bottom of the calendar. We also offer RSS feeds and iCal/Outlook calendars, as well as a monthly email with all the gigs. See the Gig listings page for more info.
Becoming a registered user gives you access to the forum and allows you to comment on gig listings and Noticeboard (front page) posts. You can also send and receive Private Messages. Once registered, you can ask to be upgraded so you can post on the Noticeboard (front page of the site). This is similar to posting on the forum, but gives you a bit more exposure.
Firefox is our recommended browser, as most of the site is tested in Firefox, so there is a greater chance of everything working. If you can’t be bothered with downloading it, please make sure you at least have Internet Explorer 7 - the forum tends to work better that way.
And if you’re interested, this site is built with modified versions of Wordpress and Vanilla, both of which are open source, free and great.
