MANFEST 2
Saturday Feb 16th
The Brudenell Social Club
Leeds
£7 entry
Return of the Man
The all-day indie/DIY/punk festival is nothing new. In 2007, Leeds alone hosted 270 of these events across various dingy pubs, caravan park and encrusted social centres. One of these ‘festivals’ was called Manfest, it was pretty good so it’s going to happen again in 008.
People like Barry Hoan (compere of ATP Festival) seem to think that organising a musical event makes their contribution to civilization more important than any other human’s since Freddie Mercury penned the blow-job inspired Bohemian Rhapsody.
MANFEST 2 recognies that putting on an all-day festival is as socially beneficial and as worthy as buying a tramp a pen, or reading the radio ties (both valid exercises). However, that doesn’t stop those involved in organising and playing at it from employing a few clichéd yet honourable tactics – distributing money fairly, being approachable, and happily taking responsibility for what little donky-work is involved in what ought to be a fun and enjoyable day.
2008 will see us exend our manly invites to bands from the continent as well as some of our staple Leeds-Man-Chums. Enjoy the bands, come down early and try and beat me at man-drinking and dog-clubbing.
