10 december - zombie zombie, quack quack, sense or this?, quip @ brudenell social club, 4 quid
ZOMBIE ZOMBIE - is Parisien crazy scientist music from Professor Etienne Jaumet & Cosmic Neman (from Herman & Dune). Analogue theremin, synths, space echo tape delay & provocative drumming. Like a horror movie, when your car won’t start and someone’s out to kill you dead - sound & rhythm explorations of fear. www.myspace.com/therealzombiezombie
QUACK QUACK - This will be Quack Quack’s 101st gig! Celebrate the centenary with them! Sublime trance-like pop songs, chock-full of bubbly and fizzing synths, badass krautpoppin’, busting and droning basslines, and the obligatory smoother-than-smooth cool cat jazz of Turps’ insouciant rhythms infusing Quack Quack’s every move with a wonderful restless energy and groove. The spare and solid basslines are the real weight behind their drive, but the keyboards carry all the hooks and some fantastic square-wave textures and splutters and spurts. Totally riding high at the moment, and fresh from recording their first full length album. www.myspace.com/thisisquackquack
SENSE OR THIS? - Sense Or This? is Dom and a host of audio armoury, involving everything from woodwind, food colouring jammed into straws and blown across over head projectors, megaphones, natural feedback loops from contact mic’d speakers, storytelling, free jazz, circuit bent electronics, and crunked out acid party bass. Sometimes intensely painful, sometimes stupidly silly. www.chinchillaweb.co.uk/senseorthis
QUIP - is perhaps the hardest working live performer in Leeds electronica? Bold, catchy and unafraid to bring out the big harmonies and chunky beats, Quips reportiore can swing anywhere; from Prefuse style tricked out hip hop, through skewed electronic pop to filthy electro. How party it gets, all depends on how much you are prepared to get up on a Monday night. www.myspace.com/quipmusic
