Continuing our regular showcase of the exciting Anti-folk genre, we welcome back Deformed Cactus legends; David Cronenberg’s Wife promoting their critically acclaimed new album Hypnagogues as our headliners. Joining them on the trip up from London town will be the ferocious Lucy’s Diary, supported by top local acts Pretty Riddles and Steph Stephenson.

First up…

Steph Stephenson – Huddersfield

Singer song writer Steph is an adopted local originally from Wales and has been writing and performing since the tender age of 14. The beauties of life, boys, trials and tribulations are but a few subjects touched upon by this honest, passionate songstress. Her biographical style of frank and personal lyrics is combined with joyously foot tapping tunes. After already being championed by BBC Radio Humberside’s ‘Raw Talent’ show, Steph is another fine example of the up and coming talent we love to bring to our audiences.

Come on down early and experience a true emerging talent…

Pretty Riddles – Leeds

Polish off those shiny dancing shoes you dirty boys and girls…up next is a 4 piece local triumph of Indie ambience, charmingly known as Pretty Riddles. Well known on the Leeds gig scene, the lads take their influences from the likes of Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones. Live shows are energetic dance along affairs littered with bouncy catchy riffs, clever intricate lyrics and song after song of singalongability.

Primed and ready to move to the next level, Pretty Riddles could quite easily be Leeds’ next big break out band to over the masses.

Lucy’s Diary – London

Well what a major coo! Currently on the TV and radio playlists everywhere from Tom Robinson (6music) to Jonathan Ross (Radio 2) and Frank Skinner (Absolute Radio), Lucy’s Diary are quickly building a reputation worthy of their influences Blondie, Pati Smith and Siouxie and the Banchee’s

So what’s the story?

Lucy Joplin (front woman and founder of LUCY’S DIARY) has kept a secret diary from age thirteen after the death of her mother. The diary writing arguably helped save her own life given the rollercoaster journey from Kings Cross that followed marking a life as dramatic in adulthood as it was in childhood. Transforming the diary into songs became a therapy, a release from a turbulent life of homework in hostels, evictions and addictions, modelling and motherhood, rock ‘n’ roll and relationships. A chance meeting with axeman JJ Crash and the introduction of music producer/ex-DEATH IN VEGAS guitarist Ian Button on drums has turned Lucy’s Diary from a one woman acoustic show to a live and wonderfully loud three-piece that need to be seen.

And headlining….

‘bitterly humorous lyrics.. a mix of The Fall’s 80s rockabilly inspired ‘Grotesque’ and the Velvet Underground [on “Hypnagogues”]’

—The NME

Yes we are truly thrilled to welcome back Anti folk and Deformed Cactus legends David Cronenberg’s Wife. Following the release of their much anticipated 2nd Album ‘Hypnagogues’ DCW are back in Leeds to rock it and rock it hard. For those of you who are unfamiliar, David Cronenberg’s Wife are a 6 piece band signed to London based Blang records with a talent for dark storytelling, rock and roll riffs with a punk like swagger. Giving a subversive fuck-you to elitist folk purists; front man Tom Mayne will take you from absurd to disturbed whilst being completely entertained throughout your journey. Critically acclaimed by the NME cronies, Mark Lamarr, Mark Riley but even more importantly the Leeds gig goers at their last Deformed Cactus appearance, DCW are back and believe us it’s going to be EPIC….
